News : Red Cross Closing Emergency Call Center in Springfield
Springfield, MA, USA, March 15, 2015 -- The American Red Cross said it will be closing its call center in Springfield, which serves as an emergency communications center for military families.
Red Cross Spokesman Peter Macias told CBS 3 the closing is part of an effort to make things more efficient.
He said 14 people will lose their jobs when the call center closes later this year.
The center, which helps military families in crisis reach members stationed overseas, is part of the Red Cross facility on Brookdale Drive.
Along with the Springfield site, a call center in San Diego, CA, which employs 24 people, will close too.
Macias said call centers in Kentucky and Oklahoma will handle the load, while a new online platform will launch later this year.
Any military families or members who need to reach out to the American Red Cross can do so by calling 877-272-7337.
