News : Research Firm to Open Albuquerque Call Center
Albuquerque, NM, USA, Oct 21, 2015 -- An independent research institute focused on social science research plans to create 200 mostly part-time interviewer jobs at a call center scheduled to open in February in Albuquerque.
NORC at the University of Chicago, which was founded in 1941, will use the call center to conduct surveys for use in research studies for clients that include governments, corporations and nonprofits. Its existing call center operation is based in Chicago.
"We are opening a new call center in Albuquerque, which will give us the flexibility we need to operate effectively across time zones and during a longer period of time each day," said NORC spokesman Eric Young. "We will maintain call center operations here in Chicago."
NORC has leased 15,000 square feet at Copper Pointe, a 247,166-square-foot mixed-use commercial building at 10500 Copper NE, near the Interstate 40 and Eubank interchange.
The institute "will be looking for local management staff, ideally with call center or market research experience," he said. "Most of our work will be conducted Monday through Thursday in the evening."
The hiring of part-time interviewers will begin in January. Employees will not be selling anything, Young said.
"In a typical shift, each interviewer will complete around 20 brief interviews and five longer ones. At peak load with all 200 booths, that would be 4,000 short interviews and 1,000 longer ones," he said.

"Working in the call center is ideal as a second job for people who have retail or customer service experience, seniors wanting to earn some extra money and students," he said. "We have a specific interest in hiring some bilingual interviewers."
NORC originally stood for National Opinion Research Center, but it now goes by just the initials. In addition to Chicago, NORC has offices in Atlanta, Boston, San Francisco, Silicon Valley and the Washington, D.C., area.
Its research studies are generally conducted in five main areas: economics, markets and the workforce; education, training and learning; global development; health and well-being; and society, media and public affairs.
