News : Residents Unable to Phone Adur and Worthing Councils
West Sussex, UK, July 22, 2015 -- Residents trying to call Adur and Worthing Councils were experiencing problems on July 22 following issues with the council telephone system.
The phone lines which can expect hundreds of calls every day, have broken, leaving people unable to get through.
A council spokesman said: "Adur and Worthing Councils would like to apologise to any customers having difficulty contacting them today, following issues with the telephony system in the contact centre."
Engineers are on their way to Worthing Town Hall to ‘urgently’ repair the system which allows the councils’ customer contact Team to answer between 800-1,000 calls per day.
The face-to-face customer service points at the Adur Civic Centre and Portland House, Worthing, are still open for business, with the team able to deal with a range of customer enquiries.
Many enquiries can also be dealt with online at Council homepage.
A spokesman added: "This latest period of downtime follows a number of days of instability over the last week.
"Members and officers are holding regular conferences with engineers and the company supplying the telephony systems to understand the root of the issues - which appear to be different each time the system fails.
"The councils are currently in the process of procuring a new telephony provider who will improve reliability and it is expected that a new contract will be in place by the end of the autumn."
Updates will be provided through the councils’ website and social media feeds as the situation develops.
