News : Retired U.S. Army Surgeon General Horoho to Lead Accenture Federal Services Defense Health Business
Arlington, Va. March, 2016 -- Retired U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Patricia D. Horoho, the first woman and nurse to serve as a military surgeon general, will join Accenture Federal Services to lead its defense health practice and oversee business strategy, growth and operations.
Horoho served as the 43rd U.S. Army Surgeon General and commanding general of the US. Army Medical Command from 2011 until her retirement in December. She will assume her new position at Accenture on April 6.

Horoho brings immense expertise in military health, population health, and force readiness for our service members and their families," said David Moskovitz, chief executive Accenture Federal Services. "We are fortunate to have her combined clinical expertise and executive leadership to help the Department of Defense, Office of Veterans Affairs and other federal agencies strengthen and expand their integrated health services."
In her 33-year career with the Army, Horoho held every level of leadership in Army Medicine and served as commander of Western Regional Medical Command, based in Fort Lewis, Wash.; Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Wash.; Walter Reed Health Care System in Washington, D.C.; and DeWitt Army Community Hospital in Fort Belvoir, Va. She also served as the special assistant to the commander, International Security Assistance Force Joint Command, Afghanistan.
Her military awards and citations include the Superior Unit Citation, Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, France's National Order of Legion of Honor, Chevalier (Knight) Award, Japan's Defense Cooperation Award Second Class and the President's Lifetime Achievement Award.
Horoho was awarded a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1982 and was recognized by the university as a 2015 Alumna of the Year. In 1992, she earned a master’s degree as a clinical trauma nurse specialist from the University of Pittsburgh, which named her a 2007 Legacy Laureate and 2012 Distinguished Alumna Fellow. She also holds a master’s degree in national resource strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces and honorary degrees from the University of Pittsburgh, University of Minnesota and the New York Institute of Technology.
