News : Rockingham County Builds 911 Center
Rockingham County, NC, USA, May, 2015 -- A new 911 call center in Rockingham County will be the start of faster response times for people in the area.
The Wentworth-based building will cater to all areas within the county. The center is located behind the courthouse.
Prior to the opening of this facility, whenever you dialed 911, those calls would go to dispatchers at local police departments. If callers needed fire crews or an ambulance they often would be transferred to repeat their concerns to different dispatchers that handled those departments.
With all 911 calls coming into the same building one dispatcher can handle all your needs during one call, cutting down on the call time and in turn increasing response times. All first responders, with the exception of Highway Patrol, will be dispatched from workers at the center.
The county made this center possible through the help of a grant from the North Carolina 911 board. Taxpayer dollars were not used.
