News : Safe Manufacturer to Create 28 Jobs in Former Hammond Book Warehouse
Hammond, IN, USA, July 9, 2018 -- A safe manufacturer plans to open a fulfillment and call center at a former book warehouse in Hammond, where it will hire 28 workers.
California-based Blue Dot Safes makes high-security safes, depository safes, gun safes, under-counter safes, utility safes and floor safes for individuals and businesses. The company is investing in a downtown Hammond building that previously been home to the Discover Books distribution hub and a thrift store distribution facility.
Blue Dot Safes is locating a 24/7 call center and Midwestern distribution facility at 430 Russell St., about a block north of 18th Street Brewery and two blocks east of Hohman Avenue. Renovations will include the facade of the 60,000 warehouse, which was built on the five-acre downtown site in 1981.
"Blue Dot Safes is excited to expand our footprint into Northwest Indiana," President and CEO Berge Jalakian said. "We’re extremely eager to get our new Midwest facility up and running with the help of many hardworking Hoosiers."
The company, which was founded in 2004, currently has 52 employees and plans to hire more to do technical support and customer service work in Hammond over the next two years.
"The city is happy to welcome Blue Dot Safes to Hammond," Hammond Mayor Thomas McDermott said. "This investment in our downtown will bring jobs and keep investment in the former Discover Books building. I think it says something about the viability and business climate in Hammond when we have a large facility that was never vacant — it went from one company occupying it to another one moving in."
