News : ‘Salaam Seniors’ Helpline Launched
Jalandhar, India, July 27, 2016 -- Taking an initiative to serve the senior citizens in a better way, the Jalandhar police have started a special helpline, ‘Salaam Seniors’, with the toll-free number 1090 which will be active 24x7 hours for the help of the elders.
ADCP headquarters Amneet Kondal has been made the nodal officer of the helpline, who will keep on monitoring the complaints and the action taken by the police stations on the complaints of senior citizens.
Under this helpline, no official below the rank of the SHO would attend to the complaint of a senior citizen. Only an SHO or DSP would be the authority in deciding action on their complaints.

Launching the helpline, Police Commissioner Arpit Shukla said the helpline had been launched for the convenience of the elders who, otherwise, face issues while visiting the police station to file any sort of complaint.
Under this helpline, if any elder makes a call at the toll-free number, he will be immediately assisted by the police station officials concerned and timely action would be taken on their complaints.
"If any senior citizen visits the police station, he/she will be listened to on a priority basis and no unnecessary delay will be made on part of the police. Strict instructions have been issued to the heads of all the police stations in this regard," Shukla added.
The Police Commissioner also conducted a special meeting with over 50 senior citizens in which they were informed about the helpline and its functioning. They were also asked to give feedback about the working of the helpline so that further improvements could be made for extending better services to them.
Police officials said to extend the reach of the helpline among the senior citizens, all police stations had been told to put up signboards pertaining to the helpline at the stations.
