News : Serco Staff Abused Over Hospital Woes
Murdoch, WA, Australia, Oct 22, 2015 -- Staff employed by private contractor Serco have been abused in the street and physically confronted over the company’s involvement in the running of Fiona Stanley Hospital.
Serco’s Asia-Pacific chief Mark Irwin used a rare public appearance at a Parliamentary inquiry hearing yesterday to lash out at what he claimed was a campaign of misrepresentation against the group.
The British-based company has come under fire in the past year following problems with the flagship hospital’s call centre and botched sterilisations of operating equipment.
It led to the State dramatically stripping Serco of the sterilisation contract April.

Mr Irwin yesterday rejected much of the criticism, saying that after initial teething "difficulties" with the call centre it had largely been running at or near benchmarks.
He also took a swipe at suggestions Serco’s contract to provide services at FSH was somehow secretive, saying it was "subject to more accountability measures than any other hospital".
However, Mr Irwin was most strident in his criticism of how "inaccurate" information had affected Serco staff, who had been harassed on the street and in trains and physically intimidated at the hospital.
