News : Serco Staff Meet with MSP
Brora, Scotland, Sept 11, 2014 -- Workers made redundant from the Serco call centre in Brora, which closed down this week, met with north MSP David Stewart and their local councillor Deirdre Mackay, east Sutherland and Edderton.
Mr Stewart said afterwards: ""I met with workers at the Brora Serco site who have now sadly lost their jobs to provide them with an update on what work I have been doing to fight their corner and to act as a sounding board for their concerns going forward.
"It was unfortunately too late this time to save the 21 jobs that have now gone at the Serco site in Brora. However, with hundreds of jobs being lost across East Sutherland over the last year, the fight continues to retain local jobs as well as bringing more in to the local area.
"I am still in discussion with Highlands and Islands Enterprise over the future of superfast broadband in Brora and East Sutherland and all parties are agreed an accelerated rollout of superfast broadband is one of they key factors to securing the East Sutherland economy, and as a step towards attracting an employer and contract to fill the gap left by Serco."
