News : ServiCom Set to Boost Call Centre Jobs in Sydney
Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada, April 12, 2016 -- A Cape Breton call centre is aiming to add 400 to 500 jobs to its Sydney operation, expanding to 1,100 during the next 18 months.
ServiCom director Todd Riley said on Monday the growth was being driven by many of the New Jersey-based company’s clients wanting to bring previously offshore call centre jobs back to North America.
"The quality of contact is a big concern for clients right now. (Reshoring) offers much, much stronger quality and performance," Riley said.
The move has nothing to do with a more competitive Canadian dollar, he said. "This is a long-term lease. And in the U.S., our company is opening another site as we speak."
Riley said in late September the company would move its existing operation from Sydney River into 33,000 square feet at the rear of the former Target department store at Sydney Shopping Centre. The space is owned by Empire subsidiary Crombie REIT.
Sydney River is the company’s only Canadian call centre.
Call centre representatives are paid from $11 to $11.50 an hour, with the ability to collect a bonuses based on sales quotas.
