News : Several People Without Jobs After Letcher County Call Center Closes
Jenkins, KY, USA, March 27, 2017 -- On Friday, Jenkins Mayor, Todd Depriest got a call from Healthcare National Marketing.
"We were hoping for some updates on things they were doing and how they were doing," Depriest said.
However, the call took an unexpected turn.
"They informed me they were going to close the call center down, not enough sales generated to support it and over the past months they've been spending between $10,000 and $20,000 a month to keep it open," said Depriest.

Nearly two years ago the call center opened but is now closed for good.
Depriest said, "It's a hard lick for us."
The center served as an outbound call center to generate business for different healthcare plans, mostly dental policies.
But with the doors shutting, several people in Jenkins now find themselves without a job.
"Eighteen jobs with 18 families depending on that revenue to make it, it's a hard hit for Jenkins," Depriest said.
Not just for those families, but the community as well.
"Anytime you lose a job those dollars turn over, so if they can't shop at the local store, or go to the local sales service, whatever, those dollars are gone for right now," said Depriest.
