News : Siemens Unveils New Control Centre
Poole, UK, MAY 5, 2015 -- Siemens’ site in Poole is to be the home of a new service operations centre helping to keep traffic flowing on Britain’s roads.
The news was one of several announcements made by the company at the trade show Traffex in Birmingham, where it unveiled a host of innovations.
The new base in Poole will bring together a field service contact centre, systems support and its existing Poole-based consultancy services team.
It will be able to remotely manage local authority road networks, monitoring key routes and junctions and carrying out strategic traffic control.
Martin Andrews, head of consultancy services with Siemens, said: the centre would support stretched customer traffic control resources. "‘By combining our offering, we can provide an enhanced level of day-to-day operational support to customers that is completely flexible depending upon their requirements."
He said the centre would offer a secure 24/7 network management service run by traffic consultants and engineers.

Among the other inventions the company took to Traffex was a display which shows pedestrians how long they have left to cross the road after the green man has gone out. The company said it was intended to reduce anxiety among pedestrians when the green man was no longer displayed.
It also unveiled a ‘talking’ traffic controller, which uses a Bluetooth dongle to speak aloud to the maintenance engineer working on it.
As previously reported, Siemens also unveiled its WiMag Cycle Detection system, which sits in the ground to detect and count bicycles
