News : Some 911 Cellphone Calls Made Near Winnipeg Still Rerouted to Brandon
Winnipeg, MN, Canada, Feb 16, 2015 -- Despite challenges with some 911 calls from cellphones, the City of Winnipeg says the system is working.
Some 911 calls made on the edge of Winnipeg from mobile devices are being rerouted to Brandon’s call centre, leading to a delay in emergency response.
A report said that happens because cellphones calls are picked up by the nearest tower with the best signal and not necessarily the one where the device is registered.
This ensures the call is answered as quick as possible with the most reliable connection.
The report said there are currently no simple changes that can be made to guarantee all 911 calls from a cellphone are routed to the proper jurisdiction while maintaining speed and reliability.
