News : SOS Heard: 112 Helpline to the Rescue of Women

#contactcenterworld

Mysuru, India, Feb 2023 - Emergency Response Support System (ERRS, 112), the emergency response helpline number, has come to the rescue of many distressed women who otherwise would have been harassed by drunken husbands, sons, and brothers.

The helpline has been helpful in averting such crimes. On average, over a dozen women receive immediate help over a phone call in the Mysuru district in a day.

Police arrive at the doorsteps of callers in less than 30 minutes (depending on the distance between the caller’s village and the jurisdiction police station), and prevent possible trouble for women. Every day, an average of 50 persons contact the police on the helpline seeking support with most of them being women and senior citizens. Common complaints are drunken brawls and quarrels between neighbors.

Police in T Narasipura, Nanjangud, Mysuru South, KR Nagar, and Hunsur have recently attended to complaints pertaining to drunken brawls, mostly after dusk, between family members.

Except in some cases, police have solved the problem on the spot, and detained the trouble-mongers.

In Hakanur village of T Narasipura, police were summoned after a man quarreled with his parents. In Nanjangud’s Makanapura village too, relatives rang up 112 seeking their help for similar problems. A youth from Ramaswamy Layout in Nanjangud was harassing his parents and relatives after consuming alcohol. Police rushed to the place following a call to bail them out. Similarly, Yelwala mobile police team rushed to Rattanahalli after parents were informed of harassment by their son, who had come home drunk. In Kasuvinahalli in Nanjangud and Bilikere, police were summoned after men were troubling their wives after consuming alcohol.

SP Seema Latkar told TOI that district police are responding to every call on 112 round-the-clock. "Our team members visit the spot and address the grievances of distressed women and family members on the spot. The ERSS helpline has been helpful to many. Awareness has to be created about the 112," the SP added.
