News : South Corporation Starts Sanitation Helpline
New Delhi, Feb 27, 2014 --The BJP-led South Corporation has launched a helpline to address sanitation-related problems. This is the third helpline launched for speedy redressal of grievances. However, previous initiatives by the corporation, such as Facebook page and sanitation drives, have not been successful.
"We have set up a grievance redressal centre in each zone," said Sarita Chaudhary, south Delhi mayor.
The corporation is hopeful that this helpline would prove to be more efficient than previous initiatives.
"Through this service, we will be in touch with citizens directly and will try to solve their problems in a time-bound manner. We have to incorporate transparency, accountability and responsibility in our administration," added Chaudhary.
Manish Gupta, commissioner, South Corporation, said complaints for garbage pick-up from dhalao will be attended to within 12 hours. "On every helpline number, three lines are operating," he added.
Earlier, the corporation had opened a Facebook page where people could upload pictures of unclean areas and the officials would take action and upload pictures of the area after cleaning it. However, this initiative has been discontinued. "We did upload circulars and were looking into the complaints posted on the page, but the response on Facebook hasn't been good. Not everyone has access to internet and it wasn't helping us in reaching out to the people," said a corporation official.
The maintenance of the Facebook page lies with DEMS department as it addresses only sanitation-related problems.
