News : Spark to Hire 40 Extra Call Centre Staff in Christchurch
Christchurch, New Zealand, Dec 1, 2015 -- Spark will recruit a further 40 customer service staff in Christchurch to make it faster for customers to get through to the company.
The company had already recruited an extra 100 call centre staff that it promised to hire in September, customer services manager Bridgette Dalzell said.
But while Spark had made some progress cutting call-waiting times it still had a "long way to go", she said.
The 40 new staff would be in addition to the 100 it had already taken on, she said.
Dalzell said there was a trend towards longer and more complex calls, in part driven by the take-up of ultrafast broadband.
With the extra hires, Spark would have about 1200 people answering about 120,000 calls a week, she said.
Spark's call centres are based in New Zealand and the Philippines.
In September, Spark launched a "timesaver" tool, which shows average waiting times to get through to its call centres and the best time of day to call.
