Rotterdam, NY, USA, April 8, 2020 -- Even with much of the economy in free-fall because of the COVID-19 pandemic, some companies are adding jobs.
Spectrum Mobile announced it plans to hire an additional 200 people for its new national call center in Rotterdam in response to growth in its mobile communications business. The company has already hired 200 people, and said its goal is to have 500 people working in the call center by the end of 2021.
Spectrum Mobile has a $16.50 per hour starting range, and the company says it has made a commitment to a $20 per hour in 2022. Employees also receive comprehensive health care benefits, retirement savings plans, career development potential and free or discounted Spectrum services.
The call center supports billing, account management, technical support and data transfer services.
"Spectrum Mobile customer service roles offer talented, hard-working local employees rich career-growth opportunities," said Joe Ploof, the company's senior director of mobile customer service.
Rotterdam approved the plans for the former Time Warner cable building near Interstate-890 Exit 8 last year.
"We're fortunate that Spectrum Mobile has chosen to expand and bring hundreds of jobs to Rotterdam," said Town Supervisor Steven Tommasone. "They recognize an experienced workforce in the Capital District and that Rotterdam is a great place to locate to attract employees."
"Our town is growing again and these jobs will encourage further economic development and small business activity along Hamburg Street," said Councilman Evan Christou, the deputy supervisor.
Spectrum currently has openings for first and second shifts. Interested candidates can apply online anytime. To comply with social distancing guidelines, candidates will undergo an initial screening and interviews via phone or live video, and the employee hiring process is completed virtually.
