Galashiels, Wales, July 24, 2020 -- Staff are facing redundancy at a Galashiels call centre.
Sykes has engaged its Nether Road employees in a consultation over their jobs.
A Border Telegraph reader, who said they work at the call centre, told us: "It can't be helped but it's devastating to be losing work at a horrible time."
A spokesperson for Sykes said: "After careful review we have started consultation about a reduction in the workforce at our Galashiels site."
Staff were told about the job losses around three weeks ago, according to the employee who contacted the Border Telegraph.
The employee - who we have granted anonymity - said staff were informed their contracts are coming to an end, with managers also affected.
"I feel pretty stressed, everyone is feeling the pressure and are worried what to do," the source said.
They added: "There's added stress of finding a job at a time with hardly any jobs available.
"Some people may be lucky and walk into a new job.
"I'm looking for employment, hoping there's something to take on or I'm going to have to seek help from the Job Centre."
The source also revealed that the redundancy talks are having an impact on the mental health of some staff.
"I've spoken to others and they're all struggling - their mood is very low," the source said, adding: "People with houses, kids or mortgages are going to struggle."
A Sykes spokesperson said: "Sykes is responsive to the needs of the market and our clients in a constantly changing business landscape.
"The decision to make such changes is never easy.
"After careful review we have started consultation about a reduction in the workforce at our Galashiels site."
The Border Telegraph has contacted the company to ask how many jobs will be lost.
