News : Holiday Company TUI UK and Ireland Looks to Recruit Staff
Swansea, UK, May 13, 2015 -- Holiday company TUI UK and Ireland which owns Thomson and First Choice has opened a new office in Swansea with the prospect of new jobs.
The teams based at the new office, on Alexandra Road in the city centre, will be responsible for customer contact, including operating social media channels. It is also now home to the UK and Ireland payroll team as well as dedicated IT support personnel.
Officially opening the office yesterday was Suzy Davies, AM for South Wales West and Shadow Minister for Tourism, Culture and Heritage, Sport, Equalities, and the Welsh Language.
She was joined by George Reid, member of Visit Wales's tourism advisory panel and Robert Francis-Davies, councillor for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration at Swansea Council.
Fraser Ellacott, TUI UK and Ireland's customer operations director, said the decision to base the contact centre in Swansea was due to the county's multi-skilled, positive and engaged workforce.
"We are really proud to have officially opened our new Swansea office today and showcased our commitment to Wales and the local area," he said.
"This move represents a huge step forward in our long term customer service strategy and we'll be building on this moving forward, continuing to put the customer at the heart of everything we do.
"We've been particularly impressed by the skills and positivity of the local workforce and will continue to look at opportunities to build our operations in Wales."
He added as the business continued to deliver greater service to customers, it would look to grow the number of employees at Alexandra House.
The Swansea contact centre teams are also set to benefit from investment in new systems and technology that will connect them with airline, retail and overseas colleagues. It will allow them to pass on special requests or key information such as anniversaries and birthdays in a drive to make customers' holidays even more personal.
The company now employs more than 600 people in Wales across its airline operations, the new office and within 50 retail stores in the country.
With the help of employees from the new site, Ms Davies, Mr Reid and Mr Francis-Davies were given a tour of the office and heard about the company's investment in its people, technology and services.
Ms Davies, Welsh Conservative AM for South Wales West, said: "I welcome TUI UK and Ireland's commitment to Swansea and the region.
"I am delighted to be officially opening their new offices, which underlines their confidence in Swansea and brings new jobs and new opportunities to the region I represent."
TUI UK and Ireland said the Swansea office opening was a further commitment to the region. It follows a move by the company to add 4,500 extra seats from Cardiff Airport on Thomson Airways flights for summer next year. Also, investment in its retail stores in Wales, such as the new Thomson Superstore, which opened in Cardiff last year as part of the company's retail transformation programme.
This new type of 'holiday design store' is said to combine the latest technology with expert knowledge to enhance the holiday booking experience for customers.
