News : Tech Support Scam Hitting Central Illinois
Decatur, IL, August 21, 2014 -- People in Central Illinois have been hit with phone calls from cyber scammers over the past few weeks.
The caller pretends to be from tech support, usually from Microsoft.
They say that your computer is sending out alerts or messages and will shut down soon.
Then, they usually direct you to a website where they can access your computer and can install software to get all of your personal information. The usually try to sell you services or tell you they can fix it, but for a price.
The callers are also very pushy sometimes calling people many times and not taking no for an answer.
Local computer experts say tech support from Microsoft or other companies would never call you out of the blue. And they say, do not download any material from these callers.
