News : Telenor SIMs to Come Embedded with Child Helpline Number 1098
New Delhi, India, Feb 8, 2016 -- Telenor India Monday said that all its SIMs will come embedded with 1098 number to offer direct and one touch access to the Child Helpline.The telco has also partnered with Child Helpline.
Sharad Mehrotra, CEO of Telenor India said, "Our Webwise program aims to build defenses amongst children by guiding them on how to be safe online. We have also integrated 1098 Child Helpline on our SIMs for easy access. These are small steps towards developing a safe online universe for our young users."
The telco said that it is working towards spreading awareness and building knowledge among children, parents and their teachers about online risks in the country.
At the Safe Internet Forum in Delhi, Telenor also launched WebWise- A Parental Guide to create awareness among parents around safe internet practices.
The WebWise programme was launched in 2014 and has covered 35,000 students across the country. The telco organises workshops to familiarise children and parents with safe internet habits and ways to protect themselves from cyber harm.
In India, studies indicate that about 30 million urban children, under the age of 18, own a personal handset. It is also estimated that 134 million Indian children will come online by 2017.
A Telenor survey indicated that 95% children in the age group of 9 to 17 are accessing the internet from a range of devices today, and mobile phone is the preferred device for children.
The study added that 62.4% of these children are spending up to 4 hours a day on the internet.
