News : Three-day Mourning in Disaster-hit Ghana
Accra, Ghana, June 4, 2015 -- Ghanaian President, John Dramani Mahama, has declared a three-day national mourning for victims of the fuel station explosion near the Kwame Nkrumah Circle on Wednesday evening, that claimed some 100 lives.The mourning starts from Monday and all flags will fly at half mast in mourning of the departed victims.
He also announced on Thursday that as part of measures to prevent further flooding in the city, which has wreaked havoc in major parts of Accra and Ghana as a whole, a GH¢50 million ($12.5 million) package has been earmarked for desilting of gutters and the expansion of waterways.
A National Call Centre (112) has been established to help rescue people in distress during this trying moment for Ghanaians.

Earlier on Thursday President Mahama visited the scene of the disaster and expressed shock at the extent of the disaster.
This is the first time in 14 years that a major disaster has claimed scores of lives, after the May 9, 2001 stadium disaster, in which 126 soccer fans lost their lives.
