News : Towergate to Axe 750 Branch Jobs
Aprill 14, 2014 -- Towergate is to cut 750 roles across its branch network as part of a process to transfer business to a new Manchester call centre.
The process will see the broker create 400 new roles in the city, resulting in a net headcount loss of 350.
In plans revealed to staff this morning, SME and personal lines customers with premiums of under £5000 will be handled by the new call centre.
The move follows the February decision to put 240 roles at risk in Leeds and Maidstone.
Towergate said at the time that the cuts would see the creation of two "centres of excellence" through the consolidation of account functions.
Mark Hodges, group chief executive officer at Towergate, said the proposed changes "form an important part of a wider programme to deliver a totally client-focused broking operation".
"The SME market is a very competitive one where client focus has to be the first priority of any business. Following our successful pilot scheme in Milton Keynes, we are confident that these changes will enable us to offer a faster, more effective and more bespoke service to our telephone customers," he said,
"We don't take these proposed changes lightly, and we will soon be starting a full period of consultation with all those impacted," he added.
