News : Truckee Call Center Has Information on King Fire
Truckee, CA, Sept 24, 2014 -- The King Fire has moved closer to Truckee and North Lake Tahoe and now a call center has been set up to provide the most accurate information to residents.
Officials said the fire is now about 10 miles from North Lake Tahoe and 15 miles from Truckee, but that it is still not threatening the region. "We believe that this end of the fire is in pretty good shape and we really do feel confident that these (fire) lines will hold," said Truckee District Ranger Joanne Roubique.
Still, the Truckee Ranger District Office recently set up a call center so residents get the most accurate information on the fire.
Officials said one of the main reasons the call center was established in Truckee is because a lot of false rumors have been going around since last week that there are possible evacuations throughout the Tahoe Basin. "Those rumors were not true, but folks were really, really worried about it."
So now Roubique said the call center is correctly informing the community. "It's understandable that folks have questions and are concerned."
In addition to the call center, updates on the King Fire are available on information boards throughout local communities.
And although no evacuations are happening in the Tahoe Basin, officials said they have defined trigger points to know if they are necessary. "In the case of evacuations we know that we would have at least 12 hours notice if we even thought evacuations were possible."
A public meeting is set for 7pm Wednesday at North Tahoe High School about the King Fire, but you can always get updates by calling the Truckee Call Center. Their hours are 7 a.m.to 7 p.m. You can reach them at (530) 587-9096.
