News : Tucson VA Opens New Call Center to Help Vets
Tucson, AZ, USA, June 22, 2015 -- The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS) held its fourth town hall meeting on Monday, in an effort to give veterans and their families a place to air their grievances and discuss health care.
During previous town hall meetings, veterans complained about access to primary care.
There are now more care providers and teams, however, some veterans said today they are still waiting a long time to speak with someone when trying to set up appointments over the phone.
"One of the things we hear is, 'Hey, we have a hard time getting through on the phones or we have to wait for a long time on the phones," said Steve Sample, chief public affairs officer for the Tucson VA.

In response, the Tucson VA created a call center that opened on June 1. Sample said it's manned by 10 personnel to help with the appointment scheduling process and decrease the wait time.
The town hall meetings were created in response to serious shortcomings that were revealed at the Phoenix VA and at other VA's around the country.
