News : Tuscaloosa County Closer to Opening New 911 Call Center

Tuscaloosa County, AL, USA, Nov 15, 2017 -- Tuscaloosa County moves closer to opening a new 911 call center.

The Tuscaloosa County Commission approved issuing a line of credit if more money is needed to finish the project.

The facility will combine the 911 call centers of the cities of Tuscaloosa and Northport, along with Tuscaloosa County, into one central location.

They will share updated equipment which will make coordinating emergency calls much easier, according to Tuscaloosa County Commissioner Mark Nelson who also sits on the 911 Board.

"Often times a call goes in and maybe it's the wrong agency for some reason. The cooperation between the agencies is important," Nelson said.

He added the facility is about 75% complete and personnel could start moving into the building after the first of the year.
