News : United Way of Beaver County Touts 2-1-1 Helpline Program
Center TWP., PA, USA, Feb, 2018 -- More than 2,700 Beaver County residents called the United Way’s 2-1-1 help line last year, connecting individuals to needed health and human service programs.
The help line is a free, confidential service connecting Pennsylvanians to programs 24 hours a day. More than 199,000 state residents called the number last year.

"People reached out to 2-1-1 to find information on basic needs, like heating or utility assistance, eldercare, or to find the closest food bank," said Mike Rubino, executive director of the United Way of Beaver County, in a prepared statement. "But they also called for everyday information like where to take their child for developmental screening, or how to locate job training or how to schedule free tax filing support."
Beaver County has been providing referral services since 2012, and the 2-1-1 helpline now serves more than 90 percent of the American population in all 50 states, Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico.
This Sunday, Feb. 11, or 2/11, marks 2-1-1 day.
Last year, the top five reasons people called the 211 helpline was for assistance with electric service payments, tax help program, rent payment assistance, food pantries and gas service assistance. The helpline also partners with PEMA and has been activated in times of emergencies, such as a substantial snowstorm or other natural disaster, to assist residents in need.
