News : Uttar Pradesh Government Starts Banking, Insurance Helpline for Farmers
Lucknow, India, June 26, 2015 -- The Uttar Pradesh government has started a Banking and Insurance Services Helpline.
It is a toll free number. Director General of Directorate of Institutional Finance, Insurance and Externally Aided Projects Shiv Singh Yadav, said, "Anyone having problems related to banks and insurance (crop insurance) can lodge his or her complaints. This helpline is the first of its kind."
Yadav further stated that banks have been requested to issue ATM Cards to pension beneficiaries. As per latest information, the number of persons availing pension and having ATM cards is being compiled.
"These beneficiaries struggle a lot to visit banks during day timings to obtain their accounts details. We have more than 91,000 old age pension beneficiaries, 37,500 physically handicapped pensioners, around 17,000 widow pensioners and more than 56,000 Samajwadi pension beneficiaries on Lucknow alone," said chief development officer of Lucknow Yogesh Kumar. "As per the latest information none of these are holding ATM Cards. We are pursuing banks to issue ATMs to all of them," the CDO said.
Banks have also been advised to include the mobile numbers of all these people in their account details. And send them SMS in Hindi for whatever transaction, which has taken place from their accounts. This will give them better control of information related to their accounts. And this will boost their motivation for learning and understanding Hindi leading to better literacy levels.
