News : Vadodara to Get Cyber Crime Helpline Soon
Vadodara, India, Oct 9, 2015 -- Lost money to conmen making fraudulent bank calls? Chances are bright that citizens defrauded by such pranksters will get their cash back! You won't have to take the trouble of lodging a police complaint or rush to the bank too.
You will soon be able to dial a dedicated cyber crime helpline that the city police plan to make operational. This unique initiative is aimed at ensuring that the fraud victims don't lose their cash and waste time in reaching out to banks or police stations.
"If the victims register complaint within hours of cheating, we will be able to help them get their money back. Also, we will be able to nab the accused swiftly," said city police commissioner, E Radhakrishana.
The helpline is being developed by crime branch police inspector Rahul Patel.
"When a fraudster uses debit or credit card details for shopping or any other purpose, the money remains with payment gateway service for at least 24 hours before being credited to his account. If we get complaint quickly on the helpline, we will notify the payment gateway and stop further processing. Emails will also be sent to the bank concerned through our official IDs," Radhakrishana told TOI.
As many as 99 people have lost nearly Rs 18 lakh to fraudulent bank calls in just three months.In most cases of cyber frauds, there is delay in registering complaint and it gives window to the fraudsters to swindle money.
