News : Vauxhall Hires 120 Staff for its New OnStar System Call Centre
Luton, UK, June 29, 2015 -- More than 100 jobs have been created in Luton by a new car system which connects drivers to call centre staff via a 4G network.
Vauxhall unveiled Luton as the European base for its OnStar system, which works on a high-speed 4G LTE mobile network calls emergency services to crash sites and helps to track stolen vehicles.
It allows drivers to contact 120 new staff, who speak eight languages between them, who work at the car manufacturer's head office in Luton.
They provide assistance during accidents and when drivers have a flat tyre or an empty fuel tank.
The system also sends a monthly vehicle diagnostics e-mail, acts as a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to seven devices and allows the car to be controlled remotely.
Tim Tozer, Vauxhall's chairman and managing director, said: "With OnStar, Vauxhall is bringing the latest connectivity technology to a wider audience.
"We are also very pleased to bring the European headquarters to Luton, creating 120 new jobs, joining our head office, Vivaro van plant and UK distribution centre which are already based in the local area."
