News : Verizon Laying Off Up to 500 Customer Service Employees in Hilliard

Hilliard, OH, USA, Feb, 2020 -- Verizon has announced plans to lay off almost 500 workers in Hilliard by this spring.

As required under Ohio’s WARN Act, Verizon notified the state this week that it plans to shutter its customer service facilities and downsize other operations at 5000 Britton Road. Up to 496 jobs are expected to be cut.

Verizon notified employees of the layoffs earlier this month. The cuts affect the company's Business Government Customer Operations center, the Customer Service Support Team, and Credit Order Review facility.

Company spokesman David Weisman says some of those call center employees will be given the option to relocate, work from home or apply to other jobs within the company.

"Our employees are highly-trained, skilled and experienced, and we want as many of them as possible to stay with us," he wrote in a statement. "Our Hilliard facility will continue to be home to Verizon employees and is an important part of our operations. We remain committed to supporting the local community."

The Hilliard location still expects to employ several hundred workers after the layoffs.

Verizon expects the layoffs to be finalized on or around April 7, 2020.
