News : Verizon Workers to Rally at Call Center to Protest New Contract for Employees
Nassau County, NY, USA, September, 2015 -- Verizon workers will rally at a call center that currently employs several hundred people to protest a new contract for employees proposed by Verizon management.
A total of 39,000 Verizon workers haven’t had a contract since June 22, when the employees rejected a proposal by Verizon management. That proposal would eliminate the Family Leave Care Plan, the Accident Disability Plan, and limit employer contributions for retirement, overtime, differential payments, and healthcare costs. The new contract would also remove any restrictions for Verizon’s right to contract out and offshore any number of jobs, and allow management to move employees to anywhere in the company’s footprint without employee’s consent.
This is the latest step in a fight that has included attack ads, and allegations of using pay increases as a "smoke screen".
