Pune, India, Apr, 2023 - The new water helpline launched by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is being flooded with calls complaining of low-pressure supply. Of the roughly 750 calls received so far, 550 pertain to supply at low pressure.
As per the PMC, the helpline was started about a month ago. It has since received many calls from the Peth areas as well as the 23 recently merged areas.
Residents here want the water supply infrastructure to be improved and the staff to be efficient.
"The workers, who operate the taps (valves) of the pipelines, should be trained properly. They play a key role in maintaining the supply pressure. If they make any mistake in water discharge through the pipelines, the end users will have to bear the brunt. The administration should keep a watch on their operations," said Rohidas Atole, a resident of the Bhekrainagar.
Prashant Sadare, a resident of the Sinhagad Road area, said a recently buil tank that caters to a big residential complex in their area is having an effect on the water supply to other properties nearby.
"Water pressure was not really an issue in our society. However, for about a month now, we have been getting a low-pressure water supply. It is leading to storage problems. Our water consumption has not changed, but availability has dropped. The civic body should make efforts to restore high-pressure water supply," he said.
"The PMC set up the water supply infrastructure and gave us connections four years ago. However, the water supply started only recently and that too at low pressure. The supply should be adequate and the timings should be fixed," said Tanaji Sawant, a resident of Handedwadi.
Rajashri Parkale, from Jogeshwari Nagar near Gujar Nimbalkarwadi, said: "At high pressure, supply of water for just two hours can also be adequate. Our area has very erratic supply timings and it is problematic. Supply timing should be the same every day so that storage and consumption can be managed properly," she said.
