News : Wayfair to Open Call Center, Create 300 Jobs in Pittsfield

Pittsfield, MA, USA, Dec, 2018 -- The Massachusetts Economic Assistance Coordinating Council has approved a tax break for Wayfair Inc.

One of the catches of this tax break? Opening up a call center and creating 300 new jobs right here in Pittsfield.

The tax break is contingent on Wayfair opening up 3,300 additional jobs between their expansion into a third location in Boston, as well as the new call center in Pittsfield. They will also have to retain the over 3,800 currently in Massachusetts.

Pittsfield's call center, which is expected to be up and running in 2019, will be the ninth for Wayfair in the US. According to the initial report from the Boston Business Journal, the company is in negotiations with a developer in the city to host the new center.

It is expected that the Pittsfield call center will house 265 customer service representatives and 35 managers.

Wayfair CEO Niraj Shah, who's hometown is Pittsfield, is excited about the expansion.

"We could not be more excited to expand our operations to the western part of the state with the opening of a sales and service center in Pittsfield — my hometown," Shah said in a company statement. "We look forward to driving continued economic growth and job creation throughout the state as we continue to build a topnotch team focused on providing Wayfair customers with the ultimate experience in shopping for home."
