News : Women's Helpline Launched in Almora
Almora, Uttarakhand, India, August 22, 2014 -- Ministry of Women and Child Welfare launched a women's helpline in Almora, in collaboration with a voluntary organization called Mahila Bal Utthan Avom Kala Manch. The toll-free helpline number can be reached from anywhere in the Almora district.
The helpline will remain open on all days, at all times. It aims to provide counseling to women who are in dire need of assistance. The helpline takes calls from women who may be facing misbehavior from in-laws or other family members, who are alone and have lost their husbands in natural disasters, whose homes were destroyed in landslides and women who are suffering from dowry harassment, sexual assault and mental illnesses.
Bhagwati Kapkoti, the counselor of the helpline said, "Any woman facing intimidation or harassment is welcome to call on the helpline. We will provide all required assistance." Mahila Bal Utthan Avom Kala Manch also has a home in New Indira Colony Khetwari in Almora town for troubled women and has a capacity of 50 women and 15 children. The women are provided medical facilities and are also trained on various skills like knitting and tailoring.
