News : Xerox Lays Off 98 from Kent Call Center
Kent, WA, USA, April 1, 2016 -- Xerox is laying off 98 people from a customer service center in Kent, the company confirmed.
The Kent office is not shutting down — 70 employees remain at the call center, and Xerox is hiring 20 more. The goal is to hire those 20 positions from the group losing their jobs, Xerox spokesman Kevin Lightfoot said.
The Kent layoffs come just weeks after Xerox announced it was effectively shutting down its call center in Redmond and laying off 325 people, but Lightfoot said the two layoffs are not related.
"These are two separate, isolated incidents," he said. "They are reflecting the business needs of two separate, unrelated clients in different industries and sectors."
Xerox lost the client the Kent office supported.
The Kent employees have been notified and their last day will be May 31.
