News : Xerox Will Lay Off 84 Baton Rouge Call Center Workers
Baton Rouge, LA, USA, March 9, 2016 -- Xerox State and Local Solutions Inc. at 7173 Florida Blvd. will permanently lay off the call center’s 84 workers on May 6.
Xerox cited "a change in business conditions" in a layoff notice filed with the Louisiana Workforce Commission.
The state Department of Family and Child Services picked an out-of-state vendor for the new contract, Xerox spokesman Kevin Lightfoot said. "Xerox has supported the state’s vulnerable for the past five years and unfortunately could not reach a mutually-agreeable contract with the state," Lightfoot said.
Xerox will transfer its customer care center operations to the new vendor, but the call center’s employees won’t be transferred, Lightfoot said. The new vendor’s call center isn’t going to be in Louisiana so those jobs will be in a different state.
Xerox’s contracts with other state agencies — and the roughly 200 employees on those accounts — are not affected by this transfer.
According to the layoff notice, 77 of the Baton Rouge workers are customer care specialists, five are customer care supervisors and two are quality assurance specialists.
The Workforce Commission has contacted the Xerox human resources department to offer Rapid Response services to affected employees.
